SCAT2 – Sport Concussion Assessment Tool – (Medical App)

The SCAT2 –Sport Concussion Assessment Tool app (by Inovapp Inc.) provides a structured approach to evaluate the athlete for a concussion. The app is a mobile version of the “Sport Concussion Assessment Tool 2” that was developed by a group of international experts in sports concussions and was published in the British Medical Journal in 2008 (vol.43, supplement 1). It is designed for assessment of an athlete after a head injury with the role of being a quick sideline tool during clinical encounters.

BOTTOM LINE:  The SCAT2 –Sport Concussion Assessment Tool app is a decent choice as a tool for concussion assessment on Apple handheld devices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch). This app is an accurate digital reproduction of the SCAT2 and has an acceptable user interface.  For someone who is not familiar with using the written version, this app provides a good introduction to SCAT2 for concussion evaluation and follow-up.  Although this app is free, it did demonstrate a few technical bugs during my testing.  Additionally, it lacks a few features that are available in a similar paid app (SCAT2 by Wayne Hans).
